The author continued to describe the altercation with her mother, sharing she felt “hot and sticky” tears streaming down her face as she remained strong in her conviction to stand up to her.
“‘You’ve always hated me,’” Shari recalled her mother telling her. “‘Ever since you were five years old, I could see it in your eyes. The way you looked at me, the way you judged me. You’ve never appreciated everything I’ve done for you, all the sacrifices I’ve made.’”
As for how she responded, Shari recalled saying, “‘That’s not true,’ I choked. ‘I never hated you, Mom. I was just scared of you.’”
And while Shari is ready to come forward with her story in the memoir, set to release Jan. 7, it has been a tumultuous journey for her since her mother and Jodi received their respective sentences last February. In October, she spoke out against a Lifetime documentary that depicted a version of her family’s story.
